It’s a neat app.  I’m going to use it to practice digital drawing until I can afford a decent tablet.

Only that didn’t end up happening and now my house is full of half-filled cardboard boxes.

This is the first prototype:

This one is kind of on the thin side and cannot stand up on its own.  Its legs do stick out a bit, which is good for a first try, I think.

And the second looks like this:

There’s a world of difference between the two dolls, despite the fact that patterns are still very similar.  Mk II has a wider head, legs that stick out at a sharper angle, and a rump it can actually sit on.  All that needs to be done now is either lengthen the legs or shorten the body and make some arms for it.  Not sure when I’ll get around to that, though.

Being that it’s a game from one of my favorite series and features music from one of my favorite bands (with the vocals cut, unfortunately), I felt it was my duty to buy the hell out of it.

Hell yeah, Tales of the Abyss.  The series in question is, of course, the Tales series.  The band is Bump of Chicken which is part of a three-way tie for being my favorite Japanese language band along with DOES and The Rodeo Carburettor.

I always feel guilty about saying that the Tales series is a favorite of mine.  This is because I’ve really only played Tales of Phantasia.  Mind you, I’ve played two versions of that installment and I love the everlasting heck out of it, but still.  I realize Abyss isn’t going to be that similar, considering half the design group, the Wolf Team, left Namco directly after Phantasia (They ended up founding Tri-Ace, btw) and the remaining ones probably drifted off to other things.  But still, I feel the need to play at least two, if not more, installments to properly claim that I like the series.

I just hope I find time to play it before I’m dead and eve more hopefully before Black & White 2 come out this fall.  I actually ended up breaking down and starting a Backloggery account.

I was stuck in the laundromat.  So this happened.

Basically, I took some popsicle sticks and added sticker labels to them.  I was planning on painting them, but I decided to hell with it.  They don’t need to look fancy, they just need to be functional.

Anyway, all these labels say something that I should use in the next project I start.  Some of them are materials, others are techniques, and still others are traits to work into a design.  A few are character names from the comic I don’t draw.

Yeah, that’s the jar I posted yesterday.  The only purpose of the stripe is to obscure the labels so I can pick a stick at random, thus deciding what I work on next.  Hooray.

Things I would do differently next time:

• Not put the paint on so thick
• Not use such ugly colors
• Tape it differently.
• Test the paint before use – the gold was really runny so I ended up doing random slashes instead of vines as I intended.

I got this weird thing that lets you draw with pancake batter. I drew Yomi because everything is better with sarcastic chiropteran sidekicks.
